HOMELY DATES

The whole idea of a date night is to stay in tune to your loved one, enhance intimacy and overall improve your relationship. Of course, the goals of date night are different for each couple and each stage of a relationship. As adults, we get wrapped up in the drudgery of day to day life. Sometimes we forget that our significant other and relationships need to be tended to for them to flourish. This is why date night is so important! Relationships are like anything else, if they are neglected, they can get worse or even come to an end. We do not want that to happen, right? When people think of date night, they immediately think of going out somewhere. The purpose of this article is to discuss things you can do as a couple while you stay at home together.

First things first, if you have children, you’ll want to make arrangements so that you will not be interrupted. This is where the grandparents come into play, a trusted friend or let them stay over at one of their friend’s house. Now we are alone together. Great, lets get started.

You can cook together. Many times, in a relationship there is one of the people that make the majority of the meals. Try cooking together and start with pizza, along with a little wine. Have some nice music, candles and have a romantic dinner without the television blaring in the background.

Another option would be a card game or a board game. You want to pick games that will be fun, not create arguments over who’s winning or not. The goal is to get to know one another better and have some alone time to talk, drink wine and laugh. Some board games can be Monopoly, Candyland, Life, Twister, chess, checkers and more. A personal favorite for card games is Uno.

Stargazing is an excellent idea! What is more romantic than date night ideas at home gazing into the stars with someone you love? You can have a blanket, light snacks and a beverage of your choosing. There are even apps you can use so that you know what you’re looking at, the name of the stars, planets and more about the universe. Using the app to stargaze is great, but it is not a time to check your email or other things on your smartphone that will distract you from your loved one.

A home movie is always a winner! Find a movie that both of you want to see, get drinks, comfy pillows, blankets, popcorn and make sure you can cuddle. If it is cold outside, a fireplace would be nice! Sounds romantic and it really is. Enjoy each other’s company, do a massage while watching the movie. This is a sure winner every time!

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
